Pfizer Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kevin Williams interviews “The Caring Economy” with Toby Usnik Podcast

BOX SCORE | NEW YORK (March 11, 2022) Pfizer’s Chief Medical Officer, Internal Medicine, Dr. Kevin Williams chats with Toby Usnik on the latest episode of “The Caring Economy” about being a black, gay man who grew up in Louisiana in the 1970s , his work during the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, to his current position at Pfizer.

Along the way, Dr. Williams also discusses his work with the Services and Advocacy for GLBT Seniors (SAGE) – America’s oldest and largest nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender seniors, focusing on the issue of LGBT aging, as well as future challenges of health care in America.


Kevin Williams, MD, is chief medical officer (CMO) of Pfizer Internal Medicine and co-chair of the board of directors of SAGE. In this role, he leads a medical affairs organization of approximately 700 physician colleagues worldwide supporting Pfizer’s efforts and drug portfolio treating primary care diseases affecting millions of patients worldwide. Williams joined Pfizer in January 2004 as director of regional medical and research specialists working in HIV-related diseases. After becoming team leader in July 2005, he held various management positions during his career at Pfizer.

Williams was re-elected to the SAGE board in 2019, having served on the board for six years, from 2012 to 2018, as secretary and chair of the nominating and governance committee, then co-chair.

Williams earned her medical degree from UCLA Medical School and is certified in internal medicine. After a two-year fellowship in health services research at UCLA and a brief academic career as a medical instructor at the UCLA School of Medicine, he spent eight years in private practice caring for HIV-positive patients. while maintaining an academic position at UCLA. School of Medicine as Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine.

In addition to his medical degree, he has a master’s degree in public health from UCLA School of Public Health and a Juris Doctorate from Harvard Law School.
