Medtronic (NYSE:MDT) announced this week that it has appointed Dr. Ashwini Sharan as chief medical officer of its Neuromodulation Operations Unit.
Sharan will be responsible for shaping the strategic direction of the Fridley, Minn.-based company’s innovation and clinical evidence plans and helping to guide physician, societal and education engagements. He will also act as a medical advisor to the company and interact with the medical community to identify current and future business opportunities to address unmet medical needs.
Prior to joining the company, he served as President of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and the North American Neuromodulation Society. Sharan has over 25 years of experience and is a practicing neurosurgeon. He is currently Co-Director of the Neuro Restoration Center and Professor of Neurological Surgery and Neurology at Thomas Jefferson University, Jefferson Medical College.
