Medical Mutual of Ohio promoted Dr. Tere Koenig to Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer, effective January 1.
Dr Rob Rzewnicki, who currently holds the post, will retire at the end of the month.
Koenig, who joined Medical Mutual in October 2015, will be responsible for all clinical aspects of Medical Mutual care management, provider accreditation, quality improvement and medical policy functions, as well as in the area of health information and analysis, which helps consumers and providers better understand and manage health care costs and quality outcomes.
Koenig joined Medical Mutual as Chief Medical Officer of Government Programs and was responsible for leading Medicare Advantage and ACA Exchange products. Prior to that, she was Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Camden Group, a healthcare consulting firm.
She was also medical director at Ohio Health Choice, a PPO; was a practicing physician and faculty member of the internal medicine residency program at Akron City Hospital; and was senior vice president and chief medical officer of SummaCare, and Apex, the third-party administrator of Summa.
Koenig, who is board certified in internal medicine and graduated in geriatrics, received her medical degree from Ohio State University College of Medicine. She received her MBA in Healthcare from Baldwin Wallace / Northeastern Ohio Joint Medical University in Berea.
