Barrow Borough Councilor Iain Mooney takes up challenge for medical aid to Palestinians

COUNSELOR takes on colossal walking challenge to help raise vital funds for Palestinians.

Barrow Borough Councilor Iain Mooney walks 100km throughout March to raise funds for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.

The Furness General Hospital nurse raised more than £500 after taking part in the Tour de Furness for Mind in Furness last year – and hopes to receive the same support in her latest charity challenge.

He said: “I’m starting the 100km challenge with a week of walking in the council room and working out in the hospital ward.

“A big thank you to everyone who has already donated to the cause.

“I am taking up the 100km March Challenge for Palestinian Medical Aid (MAP) to help raise vital funds for the health and dignity of Palestinians living under occupation and as refugees.

“The majority of Palestinians are denied access to basic medical needs in the occupied territories and face daily terror.

“For 40 years, MAP has supported the health and dignity of those living under occupation, providing health care to Palestinians in the West Bank.

“Last year I managed to raise an incredible £525 for Mind in Furness by taking part in the Tour de Furness. This year I am looking to walk around Furness to raise vital funds for MAP.

“All support and donations are welcome at the link below”

The challenge is to cover the 100 km distance in 31 days while raising funds for Palestinian health and dignity.

MAP’s vision is a future where all Palestinians can access an effective, sustainable and locally-led healthcare system, and the full realization of their rights to health and dignity.

Through MAP’s programs in the West Bank, Gaza, East Jerusalem and Lebanon, the team works with trusted and experienced local partners to achieve this vision.

The programs, designed and delivered by Palestinians, provide access to essential health services and build local knowledge and skills to address Palestinian health issues.
