Furnishing the
outdoors
When DWR general manager Marcelo Fernandez was asked to design this outdoor space in Southampton, New York, he looked to flexible furnishings that could work equally well for entertaining and lounging. “I started with the 1966 Collection by Richard Schultz for Knoll because it’s so timeless,” says Marcelo. The elegantly modern collection helps bridge eras and materials, from the 19th-century home’s classic shingle siding and brick terrace to today's relaxed living.
He carved out a seating area beneath the covered part of the patio and created a dining area overlooking the pool. “The 1966 Dining Table is perfect for everything from breakfast to a sunset dinner,” he notes.
From rendering to reality
“Our amazing new 3-D rendering software really helps customers visualize how our furniture will look in their own homes,” says Marcelo. (See the rendering and the finished space, above.) “We can do it in minutes and the service is complimentary.”

"All-white furniture keeps its cool and blends in easily with anything, but it’s also important to add texture,” advises Marcelo. “Wood accents, woven textures, and pops of blue in pillows, throws, and portable lamps add color and warmth.”
