Danish lighting designer Mads Caprani’s most successful piece – the Timberline Floor Lamp (1971) – is back in production. Informally known as the Caprani Floor Lamp, it features a curved bentwood spine, creamy pleated canvas shade, and crescent-shaped cast-iron base. This juxtaposition of materials was inspired by the designer’s fascination with the tree line, and the natural boundary where wood transitions to rock. As for the sinuous shape of the spine, Caprani’s family says he was doodling question marks, trying to think of the right form, when he realized he’d found his answer.
